Privacy Policy

Effective & last updated July 30, 2026 · Version 1.0.0

Sip helps you find water fountains and washrooms nearby. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and who it's shared with — in plain language, matching exactly what the app does.

Information we collect

Account info

Your name, email address, and an internal account ID, provided when you sign in with Google or Apple. There's no password — Sip never sees or stores one.

Location

Your device's precise location, used to show nearby places, calculate directions, and guide you during navigation. Sip only reads location while you're using the app.

Photos

A photo from your camera or library, only if you choose to attach one when adding or reviewing a place.

Your activity in Sip

Places you save, check in to, or add — stored against your account so they sync across your devices.

How we use it

Everything above is used strictly to run the app: signing you in, showing places near you, routing you to them, syncing your saved places and check-ins, and sending you a notification when you're near a place worth checking in on.

Sip has no advertising or analytics SDKs. Your data isn't used for ad targeting, behavioral tracking, or sold to anyone — there's simply no code in the app that does that.

Legal bases for processing (GDPR)

For users in the European Union and other jurisdictions under GDPR, we process your data under two lawful bases: consent, when you register or log in, and contractual necessity, to provide core features of the app such as location-based search and directions.

Sharing your information

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information, except with the services below and where required by law.

Google Sign-In
Handles authentication if you choose "Continue with Google." Google receives your sign-in request directly; Sip receives your name and email back.
Sign in with Apple
Same, for "Continue with Apple" — including Apple's option to share a private relay email address instead of your real one.
Google Maps Platform
Powers the map, directions, and address search. Your location and any address you search are sent to Google to compute routes and results — this is required for the app's core functionality to work.
Legal compliance
When required to comply with a valid legal request, such as a court order or subpoena.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under privacy laws including GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA — to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your data, or to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact support@chekit.app. We respond within 30 days and never discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights.

Data storage & security

Your data is stored on secure cloud servers hosted on Microsoft Azure, protected by HTTPS encryption, access-controlled infrastructure, and regular backups. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we take industry-standard measures to protect your data.

Data retention & deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account. We remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days. Places you contributed stay visible on the map for other users, since fountains and washrooms are shared public information, but are no longer linked to your name or account.

Full steps and a breakdown of exactly what's deleted vs. retained: see our account deletion page.

Children's privacy

Sip is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
